Our Response: Supreme Court Opinion To Overturn Roe v. Wade

A couple of days ago, a highly unusual leak of a confidential document from the Supreme occurred and we were reminded why a draft majority opinion from a Supreme Court justice is still… just an opinion.

Headed by Justice Samuel Alito, the 98-page document unabashedly pushes to overturn Roe v Wade. This would effectively give states full rights to ban abortion.

Unfortunately, “opinions,” when they come from one of the highest courts in the western world, can have cruel repercussions.

We at Global Fund For Girls stand with all the black and brown women, young girls, and genderfluid folk who are most impacted by this issue. We also eagerly support the organizations on the ground that serve those who would feel the devastating brunt of this decision if it were to move forward.

To the people and organizations who help to address the reproductive needs of birthing people, and advocate for justice and birthing rights on the front line, we’re right there with you.

The draft abortion opinion insisted that Roe v. Wade has “exceptionally weak” reasoning. However, the blowback of this opinion is coming in strong and hard.

And rightly so. The potential aftermath would be unbearable for those living in underprivileged communities. Reproductive freedom is a right and it’s worth fighting for.
